Ossicles is a Norwegian jazz/progressive rock duo founded in 2011 by cousins Sondre Veland (1992) and Bastian Veland (1992). Influenced by many genres, including jazz, different types of rock music, avant-garde, ambient, noise and minimalism, Ossicles is a constantly evolving project. Their debut album, a double album called Mantelpiece, was released December 18th 2012. It consisted of material mostly written in the age of 16-17 years old, but it also includes compositions written later, even written in the studio while recording the album. All of the instruments of the album was recorded by themselves in the studio of the school they attended that year. Vocal tracking plus mixing and mastering was done in the studio called Lydetaten AS. Sondre and Bastian play everything on this record themselves (with the exception of guest musicians), and the record was released on their own label No Weather Records.
In 2013, Steven Wilson sent the record to a major record label, saying "I cannot believe that such young guys can make music like they do. You have to listen to it".
In 2014, Mike Portnoy invited them to play Progressive Nation at Sea.
They are currently signed to Karisma Records.
